The Hebrew Text of the Tanach
We have a copy of the 1917
Jewish Publicataion Society English translation of the Tanach in ASCII
text format (the package in in a zipped archive). The text was extracted
by Benyamin Pilant from a freeware bible program, the
Online Bible
As to the quality of the text, Benyamin notes that the verse numbering
differs in a few places from the Masoretic. Seth Ness found one instance
(Exodus 6:3) where the divine name is spelled out as though it were meant
to be pronounced by the reader. By and large, however, on first inspection
the text looks like an accurate transcription of the JPS text.
Please also see Benyamin
Pilant's Tanach archive, at the Breslov web site, which is an HTML
version of the translation and has links between the text and various hebrew
and aramaic versions available at snunit and ORT. In the future, links
to Breslover texts will be added.
Online Hebrew Tanach
and Shas!

Full Hebrew text of the Tanach,
Talmud Bavli, and Talmud Yerushalmi is available from Snunit at the
Hebrew University in Jerusalem for Web browsing. There are hypertext links
between psukim in Tanach and any mention of them in the Talmud and vice
versa! These texts, along with Mishne Torah leRambam, Mishna, and Tosefta,
are available for downloading along with DOS browsing software in the FREEware
MTR package
available from Mechon-mamre. This "DOS" software
works just fine under Windows and can sent blocks of text up to 64K to
the Windows ClipBoard for pasting, so it is not just plain old DOS
software.
You may also find a fully voweled and punctuated
Torah, Prophets and Writings (the whole TaNaKh -- Bible) text according
to the Aleppo Codex which is
HTML4 RTL text, not graphics!
The Mishneh Torah is also available,
much improved from the Snunit version based on an old version of the
text, which is also in HTML4 RTL text, but not voweled.

Introduction
There are four main versions of tanach available here. First there is the
l'chaim text. This text has mysterious origins and is missing the neviim
rishonim. It is also not the masoretic text, but seems to be based on the
BHS tanach. It is available in its standard form and in a mac version i
made using a utility available in the software archives here. To read it
under ms-dos or unix use the programs available here. To read it on a a
mac is more complicated. If you just use a hebrew font it will be backwards.
i've succeeded in reading it using either the israeli system software,
available via FTP from ftp.apple.com in dts/mac , or worldscript for hebrew
which you'll have to get on your own. Now, thanks to Eric Presser, you
can read them in any word proccessor with a hebrew font. Just get the appropriate
program(depending on which tanach you want to read) from the misc or 'other
dos and mac programs' directory. Run the program on the text and them read
it in any word proccessor with a hebrew font. I recommend the fonts in
the israeli system software. To avoid all this trouble, get the online
bible which i will discuss later.
The second text is the chumash from the above text, cleaned up
and changed to the masoretic text by dan rice. Everything said above about
reading it still applies.
The third text is the actual BHS text(including neviim rishonim).
The fourth text is Steve Gross's transliterated Tanach. It provides
an english transliterated, easily readable version of Tanach. Check out
his readmes for explanations.
Inside the 'other programs..' directory there are some programs
for MS-DOS about which i know nothing and programs for the Mac to let you
read the tanach in any word proccessor.
